Polish Immigration and the U.K Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 9500 words
Polish Immigration and the U.K - Dissertation Example In May 2011, Polish immigration was back on the rise again with some 545,000 Polish passport holders currently (2011) living in the United Kingdom. Back in 2003, only 75,000 were living in the U.K., the year before Poland joined the European Union in hopes of finding ways to jump-start its own economy (Pidd 2011). Nearly 43,000 Poles immigrated over from September 2009 to September 2010 whereas, before that, there had been a drop of 12,000 Poles who had moved back to Poland. Yet, it would appear that Poland, as a country,à had not lived up to expectations in job development and economic growth. So, back to England they went, not because England was having any sort of economic boom but that even poorly paid jobs in the U.K. were better than anything they were finding back home. Most of the immigrant Poles were from the eastern part of Poland which is typically poorer than the rest of the country (Pidd 2011).In a more general population overview, immigrants to the U.K. tend to be mo re working age people such as students and those looking for jobs and, as these people flow in, an increase in aggregate demand also occurs, increasing spending which impacts GDP (Pettinger 2012). During the middle of the last decade, more Eastern Europeans, such as the Polish, immigrated to the U.K. because of demand for builders and plumbers. The U.K. population is also aging and this meant that with younger immigrants coming in to pick up such jobs, they would be paying income taxes but not so likely to be claiming benefits. Additionally, with nearly 428,225 international students studying in the U.K. in 2010 to 2011, this influx contributed ?2.5 billion to the educational sector and helped finance domestic studentsââ¬â¢ education as well (Pettinger 2012). Yet, there is the problem of overcrowding, particularly in cities and limited areas for building more residential areas because of the desire to maintain a certain amount of green area. The European Union (EU), overall, was hit hard during the economic crisis and government budgets and employment outcomes were not what had been hoped for, even from a few years back. The aggregate government budget for the EU went from less than

Retail Park Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Retail Park - Assignment Example Major business brands would be attracted to a retail park thus giving consumers a much wider range to choose from. A retail park can also use brown field sites, if they are small. The use of a brown field sites would mean that acquiring of land, residences and other structures for building of the retail park would not have to be done. And also new land would not have to be acquired for the building of roads and railways as the ones already could be renovated and used. Since Medway does have problems associated with low wages, a retail park would create innumerable job opportunities for the people of Medway. Also, retail parks would provide opportunity for unskilled and low-skilled people to earn, thus addressing Medway's problem of lack of skills in certain areas. Having a retail park will lead to developments in social and economical infrastructure. This in turn will increase Medway Town Council's revenue. Thus the area surrounding the retail park will develop, and more people will come and settle in the area. First the demand for labor increases as shown by then rightward shift of the curve DI. Thus the wage rate increases from W to W1. Next the supply of labor increases in response to higher wages and a new supply curve marked S2 shifts on to the right. Ultimately the equilibrium wage rate is established at W2.However the serenity of the sub-urban country side of Medway could be lost due to the setting up of a retail park. Thus there is likely to be opposition from the environment conscious local communities. Preserving the country side should be of high priority. Due to the increase of traffic and the development of commercial infrastructure such as airports and offices there would be sound and air pollution. The Medway council would have to think of a way of disposing waste products from the retail park (Needham, 2006). These waste products could flow to the rivers and canals in the vicinity thus giving rise to water pollution. Certain species of birds and animals endemic to this area could be driven away as a result of acquiring land to set up the retail park. This could lead to protests from environmentalists. One of the major economic effects of the proposed retail park would be on the local shopping centers in Medway. The first major issue of an out-of-town retail development is the loss of business by the local shopkeepers. Acquiring land and the demolition of existing buildings would mean that the Medway council would have to pay compensation to the property owners and relocate them. The Medway council would have to bear this cost. Money will have to come from banks at high interest rates for this purpose. In order to have ample parking space, a large area of land would has to be rented. This will cost a considerable amount. Scenario A-2 Medway, which is located 30 miles East of London and 40 miles North West of Dover, is one of the largest

The American Dream: Life, Liberty and Freedom Essays -- Essays on the A
The basic idea of the American Dream generally has stayed the same throughout time, although the majority of Americans seem to take the Dream for granted. The first settlers arrived to the New World in search of a treasure: life, liberty, and freedom. This treasure was and still is the American Dream. Now people from all over the world come to America in search of the same Dream; some even die trying. People were not as materialistic as people are now; they just wanted happiness. As time passed, people became more materialistic and began to take for granted what they were born with. For example, when my papa was a teenager he purchased his first car with cash. Everyone paid for almost everything they got with cash, not credit like they do today. Almost everything today revolves around having credit. Most of the richest people in our state could not go to the bank and withdraw a couple hundred thousand dollars; they would have to borrow the money based on their credit. Although, there are many people that are very misfortunate and have hardly anything, their idea of the American Dream would be much simpler than that of someone who is middle or upper class. Almost a week ago my boyfriend and I were leaving Crabtree Valley mall. It was a pretty cold and rainy day, the kind of day that we would rather be at home cuddled up on the couch watching television, but we were shopping. As we were leaving the mall we came to a stoplight. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a tiny old woman kneeling by the corner of the curve. She was holding a ragged cardboard sign that read ââ¬Å"homeless, need foodâ⬠. A doleful feeling took over my body, and I thought to myself, what would her idea of the American Dream be? Would it be to own her own home or have a fancy car, I think not. By this time, her dream would be a bit simpler. Why Do People Lie
Luisa F. Samayoa Professor Class Date Why do People Lie If you are truthful in a relationship, nothing hurts more than hearing a lie from your partner; sometimes knowing the truth may hurt even more, yet still, in the longer run, a lie causes more damage than truth. Mark Twain once said, ââ¬Å"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything. â⬠Lying is not as simple as telling the truth versus falsifying it. It is deeper than that. It may well be about creating a whole new set of truths that only the liar knows of. Today, I reflect on an interesting topic: why do people lie?Four years ago, I tried to understand why people lie, so I have been researching and learning from my friends and own experiences. Lying is a constant action that is used in a daily day. So according to psychology today, much of the research shows that we tell 2 to 3 lies every 10 seconds. So, itââ¬â¢s about 9:30 now, suggest that most of us should have lied. Letââ¬â¢s take a look, how many of you have lied in the last 72 hours? Think backâ⬠¦ Have told a fib, or a big one? How many have told a little lie out there? (Raise Hand) All right these are all the liars, make sure you pay attention to them. (Smile) No, that looked good, it was about 2/3 of you.The other 3rd. didnââ¬â¢t lie or perhaps forgot, or youââ¬â¢re lying to me about your lying, which is very devious. (Smile) SHOW STADISTICS Lying has been used in the past and is not a recent behavior that has been adapted, as a result has been carried through evolution. Here we have Diogenes with his lantern. Does anyone knows what he was looking for? A single honest man and he died without finding one back in Greece. Also, we have Confucius in the East who was really concerned with sincerity. So let me talk about new deceptions we have been tracking. They are called: The butler, Sock-puppet and the Chinese water.Letââ¬â¢s start with the Butlers. * On my way, anybody ever written on my way? (Raise hand) the n youââ¬â¢ve also lied. We are never on our way. We are thinking on going on our way. * Sorry I didnââ¬â¢t respond to you earlier, my battery was dead. Your battery wasnââ¬â¢t dead! You werenââ¬â¢t in a dead zone! You just didnââ¬â¢t want to respond to that person that time. * Youââ¬â¢re talking to someone and you say: ââ¬Å"Sorry, got work, gotta goâ⬠But really, you are just bored, you want to talk to someone else. In order to succeed everyday, people have created an action, this action is called Lying and is used for different purposes. It appears some lie for no reason at all, while many lie with great reasoning, some lie for a cause, and many build a cause to lie. Let me tell you, it has been a fantastic month for deception and Iââ¬â¢m not even talking about the high profile journalist caught for plagiarism get publicity & better pay, a young superstar writer whose book involves so many made up quotes that theyââ¬â¢ve been pulled from the shelves to be known and make money; a NY Times expose on fake book reviews (Chinese water) to attract/gain publicity. Now of course, not all deception hitââ¬â¢s the news. Much of the deception is every day.People lie for many reason and some are: to save their face (example), Lying to shift blame (example), Lying to avoid confrontation, Lying to get oneââ¬â¢s way (Example), to hide information (This one can be used for good reasons or bad ones. Example good/bad), matter of habit or to gain attention. But can you detect a liar? Many people say they can sometimes and they are able to tell by seeing through their eyes, tone of voice or their body movement. Now that you have understand why people lie and that this action has been taking place since long time ago, I will tell you some of its benefits. Are there benefits on lying?Of course, telling a lie for personal benefits is always wrong, but if it can save lives or using it to donââ¬â¢t hurt someone else is worth it. One of the best e xamples of a great benefit lying cause is about the teacher in Connecticut. Now that you know a little about why people lie, you are able to be aware of many lies people have been telling in order to achieve their objectives. As a result, around the world people lie for different reasons, some can be positive or negative. All this lies are being used by people to create a buffer, because we live in a 24/7 connected world and we just want to succeed in life.

Media Influence On The Media - 1721 Words
Introduction The topic of how the media influence governmental issues is confounded, yet in its most fundamental definition, the right response to it is this: It depends. Albeit early standard way of thinking held that the media had solid, direct, supposed hypodermic impacts, later research gives persuading proof that individual-level and logical elements essentially impact the degree to which media influence individuals political conduct and convictions and, in the long run, open arrangement. The plan of this examination paper is to serve as a prologue to a portion of the essential hypotheses, bits of knowledge, and verbal confrontations about media and governmental issues. In doing as such, it touches on issues of media possession,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is known as the commercial center of thoughts viewpoint. There are no less than two principle lines of feedback to this methodology. To start with, numerous would challenge the idea of truth looking for in legislative issues. The meat of legislative issues, this viewpoint recommends, is quality clash, which in the last examination is beyond reconciliation. Consequently, there is no hidden truth or major accord that might be uncovered through examination. In any case, it appears to be uncontroversial that most civil arguments advantage from the procurement of real data and from discourse of what suggestions diverse worth needs have in the approach zone within reach. In present day social orders, this would be inconceivable without the media. There are, be that as it may, significant worries about the degree to which the media give the data and point of view important to a clever thought of the benefits and ramifications of arrangement.
